Yarn Types Tree Bark Rope
Oooh! Look at this tree bark cord I made.
Yesterday, I showed you the stalks of a tree with which I am going to make giant crochet hooks in this post. I had shaved the outer bark of the branches to make yarn out of it. This is going to be yarn soon…
Traditionally, this is not the right way to make it. However, I was going to use these stalks for some other project I had in mind and throw away the shaved bark. Then, my daughter casually mentioned about crochet hooks and this idea to make crochet hook out of it was born. Then I thought, why not use the bark to make yarn/ cordage/ rope out of it.
I submerged all the bark in water overnight so it is easier to take the fibers out of it. Today, I started making the rope.
I found out that the fibers are much easier to make into a rope when it is wet. So I have been making it in small batches while it is wet.
The first cordage I made is so thin. It looks like a fishing line.
Look how thin it is:
The second one is slightly thicker. It has more of a sports weight thickness but is also thick and thin. I still have a lot of fiber to work with. But I am so excited to show you how cool it looks that I had to share it with you all.
What do you think? Like it? I do. I will be coming up with a DIY tutorial for this very soon so you all can make it too.
